Yes, we start the puppies learning by using treats.
We always want to do the most positive types of training available. However in a dog pack corrections happen and sometimes a correction is needed. A correction can be hard eye, a low growl, time out, a gentle scruff on the back of the dogs neck, a shoulder pinch or something else. I do not believe in clicker training for basic obedience. Most dog owners do not have the timing that is needed for clicker training. When the dog becomes an adolescence the clicker is ignored when chasing the cat. Impulse control needs to be worked on. In classes we work on clear communication with our puppy. Classes voted by students the best entertainment of their week.
